The new Picnik space, in what used to be 168, is now serving more than just sausages. The renovated space is now home to three separate yet combined facilities, including the recently opened Ktchn.
Felix Barron(photo above) started Ktchn in his downtown LA loft and has expanded his reach to include brunch at The Gorbals and is now in its own little nook in Pasadena. Like his other versions, the Ktchn menu features creative twists on classic brunch items.
The extensive menu reads more like a menu for other meals, with a selection of starters, entrees and desserts. Although the menu will probably change, currently the list includes both sweet and savory items including: creamy brie grits with berry compote and hazelnut crunch; eggs scrambled with pickled jalapenos, caramelized onion and goat cheese; scrambled organic eggs with pea harissa, aged cheddar and potato hash; duck confit hash; pork belly and eggs; and tres leches French toast.
Even the drink menu is more than your typical coffee and juice or mimosa. There’s a list of mixed freshly squeezed juice concoctions and cocktails including the Heminguey (tequila, watermelon, lime and mint simple syrup) and a Spring Collins (vodka, fresh cucumber, elderflower and rosemary seltzer) as well as more traditional brunch boozes.
Also in the mini Picnik complex is a Zona Rossa coffee cart as well as Bulagrini Gelato, meaning that you can spend the day in the shady outdoor dining area and have every meal right there. Or enjoy the full service restaurant in the indoor dining room.
