Meanwhile, in the space formerly occupied by 168 Restaurant in Old Town, James Beard nominee Eduardo Ruiz of Corazon y Miel has opened Picknik, a gastropub focused on sausage and made in collaboration with Michael Puglisi of Bouchon and an upcoming Orange County butcher shop. There are sausages galore from sweet and spicy Italian style sausages to chicken sausages and a lamb merguez sausage. Sausages are served on French Vietnamese-style baguettes and have customizable toppings like sauerkraut to peppers and onions. To accompany the meat, there is a variety of craft beer, cocktails and gourmet sodas as well as sides like fries and mac n’ cheese. While there are no vegetarian sausages because the place uses natural hog casings, there are vegetarian side options, so there’s still something for everyone.
