The nominations for the Academy Awards are now out and most Oscar nominated films are still playing in local theaters. On the list are many of the films that we’ve predicted would make the cut and on March 2, the world will know the winners. With Gravity and American Hustle tying for the most awards at 10 each, it seems likely that these films will take home several Oscars —- even though some of the other films had better performances.
And oftentimes, prior Oscar awards shows seem to help to predict Oscar winners, so anybody that won a Golden Globe will probably also be in line to collect an Oscar for their collection. Until then, here is a list of the major categories, some of which you can catch at the Pasadena ArcLight and the local Laemmle Playhouse 7—including the foreign films, which I still plan to see.
Dominic and Hem-young promise to make their selections public next week, as they have seen all except 12 Years a Slave, and Dallas Buyer’s Club, which they plan to do this weekend.
