If you’re anything like me, you’re craving the feel of fall. I grew up in Southern California, but the warm weather and hardly-changing-leaves in October continue to disappoint me to no end. So I commit every fall to finding ways to bring fall-like feelings to a fall-less city. Like? Buying Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks, decorating with pumpkins in my condo, and (of course) buying sweaters, scarves, and jackets.
Two of my most favorite places to collect fall fashion items are Madewell and J.Crew. These two stores? Sisters. Yes, both a part of the same company. But what I love about the pair is that while they cater to different lifestyles, they both produce beautiful and unique pieces you’ll keep for years.
Casual, trendy, on-point, Madewell caters to my part-time work-from-home lifestyle. Cozy, slouchy, and comfy are all words I’d use to describe their clothes. Walk into the Madewell off Colorado Blvd in Old Town Pasadena and you’ll understand why. With rustic wooden floors, white-washed walls, and informal displays, this retail store warmly welcomes its shoppers inside. Then keeps shoppers in with its well-priced clothes and fun fall items.
Like the leather pocket minidress ($148), the elbow patch stadium sweater ($89.50), and the velvet dot peplum top ($75). Their staples–like jeans, sweatshirts, and tees–are comfy yet stylish. Easy yet trendy. Plus, their jewelry and accessories add a punch to any outfit. (Polka-dot tights, anyone?) The staff is friendly (like best friend, friendly), the deals are plenty (often add discounts on sale items), and fall favorites fill these shelves. If you’re looking for comfy fall fashion, book it over to Madewell. Immediately.

Sophisticated, classic, with a twist of whimsy, J.Crew also caters to my part-time office lifestyle. Structured, tailored, and decorative are all words I’d use to describe their clothes. Walk into the J.Crew off Colorado Blvd in Old Town Pasadena and you’ll understand why. With sleek displays and a boutique-like-atmosphere, this retail store draws sophisticated shoppers inside. Then keeps them in with its luxe fabrics and unique fall items. Like the double-zip sweater in colorblock ($98), the quilted satin popover ($248), and the toothpick jean in velvet ($110). Their staples–like jeans, collard shirts, and cashmere sweaters–are sophisticated yet trendy. Classic yet whimsical. Plus, their statement jewelry adds a pow to any outfit. If you’re looking for sophisticated fall fashion, come directly to J.Crew. Now.
