The repertory will consist of brand new and renewed works by John Pennington performed by eight artists. Andrew Munie designed the atmospheric lighting that will accompany the performance and Tom Peters is the creator of its musical new score.
Also part of the concert is an energetic quintet called OUT OF that will be danced in front of five floor-to-ceiling watercolor panels created by visual artist Susan Rankaitis. This section is complete with a music score by Edgar Rothermich.
PDG was established in 2000 and for the first time will proudly feature choreography by PDG dancers Li Rothermich, Michael Szanyi, and Tom Tsai. Giving such opportunities is part of the group’s purpose, says PDG artistic director John Pennington. “I am committed to nurturing and supporting dance artists in Los Angeles by helping them access a platform to produce their work…. just as my mentor Bella Lewitzky supported me.”
PDG creates and performs works that contain social, emotional, political, abstract and scientific themes to appeal to a wide audience. In seeking to preserve diverse contemporary dance traditions, PDG is also dedicated to the truthful recreation and reconstruction of significant works by seminal artists of the past.
John Pennington’s choreographies have been presented by outfits like the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. And now you are invited to enjoy the work of this accomplished performer, teacher, and director and his dance company.
BLOW will perform on Friday & Saturday November 1st and 2nd at 8 pm and Sunday November 3rd at 5pm. General admission will be $20.00 and student tickets $15.00 with ID.
