Half music venue and club and half classic restaurant, Redwhite+Bluezz has been attracting locals and out of towners alike for 7 years with its curious sounding name on the corner of Raymond and Green Street. Now in its new location next to the Pasadena Playhouse, the wine bar has a bigger stage to showcase its music and food. They Feature live jazz music nightly. The restaurant follows in the footsteps of other music venues and also serves up brunch on Sundays with the Brunch+All That Jazz program.
The menu for brunch combines classic Southern favorites with modern, California-edged twists like the etoufe omelet or crab cakes. There’s also straight up creative offerings for brunch like the navel orange Carpaccio starter or surf & turf Benedict—an excellent way to taste both the classic Benedict and the crab cake version. Elsewhere on the brunch menu you can find a taste of New Orleans’ version of doughnuts, known as beignets.
There is a complete dinner menu as well, with all sorts of delights from land and sea and there’s even a nice array of salads for lighter appetites. Similar to a steakhouse menu, there is also a separate selection of sides to accompany your lamb, pork, duck or beef including patatas bravas, which is more commonly found at a tapas bar.
What I like about Redwhite+Bluezz is that the Happy Hour menu is an entity unto itself, not just a smaller order of some of the items on the dinner menu. Even better, if you miss Happy Hour but aren’t quite ready for dinner, you can order from the charcuterie and cheese menu anytime.
Redwhite+Bluezz has become a Pasadena staple and it’s nice to see the place in a bigger, brighter space.
