If you are one of the thousands of people who think Los Angeles has just too many cars on the road, here is an opportunity to promote something better.
On Sept. 28 a community event, Arroyo Seco Via, hosted by the Arroyo Seco Foundation will get people to ride (instead of drive!) from Pasadena to downtown Los Angeles. The ride will start at Hahamongna Watershed Park (at Oak Grove Drive and Foothill Blvd. in Pasadena) and end at the Los Angeles State Historic Park (a.k.a. the Cornfield).
The funds raised by the ride will be used for a technical feasibility study that will define a route and determine cost estimates for a permanent bikeway along Arroyo Seco that could someday be used as a transportation alternative, be it either for commuting to work or for pleasure. The study will be led by Peter Jacobsen, the professional engineer who in 2000 authored “Century of Bikes,” a bike plan specific to Pasadena.
The ride will be 11 miles long each way and appropriate for just about any riders’ skill level (there are no difficult hills, but there will be some street crossings where caution will be needed). On the way, the participants will pass by important Pasadena landmarks like the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Rose Bowl, and the Colorado Street Bridge.
Ticket prices are affordable, starting at $20. A $40 ride package will add in a t-shirt and food and drinks at the end of the ride. A $100 family package will allow your family members to ride and will include two t-shirts and food and drink for all.
All riders must be over 12 years old and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone will be required to wear a helmet.
If this event sounds exciting, you could register ahead of time. You could also register on the day of the event but the prices will go up by $10.
