If, like us, you are addicted to the PBS television show “Downton Abbey,” a British period drama, you will definitely enjoy this unique Pasadena offering through the month of August. It is perhaps due to the wild success and popularity of the English show that for the first time in history the Gamble House will open the doors to its servant’s halls and rooms.
In a one-hour tour, available until August 18 only, visitors will be able to see the Gamble House from the perspective of those who worked in it, including a look into their living spaces, the original laundry sinks and the coal room in the basement.
The Gamble House was designed in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company. The Gamble House is an Arts and Crafts style masterpiece that is also a U.S. and California Historical Landmark.
The “Upstairs/Downstairs” tour will run on Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. and at 12:45 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday every half hour between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Admission is $20 but children under 12 are free. Please note that the tour includes a set of stairs that are not wheelchair accessible. Don’t miss your chance now to see the whole house! It’s just one more piece of historical Pasadena that makes it a great city to visit – and live in!
