Old Town Pasadena continues to allure me with its charming qualities. Specifically? Alleys. The fact that Downtown Pasadena has these warms my heart because they scream urban adventure. What gets me even more is that one specific alley–Douglas Alley–leads me to a beautiful boutique called Elisa B.
Named after owner Elisa Bruley, Elisa B. has been stationed in historic Pasadena since 1993. Large terra-cotta pots with greens flank this petite shop and its large wooden-trimmed glass door stands wide open, luring shoppers inside.
Immediately upon entrance, I’m in love. Creamy textured walls and natural-colored slate floors set this boutique’s tone: trendy sophistication. Which appears to be what Bruley wanted. She grew tired of traveling to New York and Beverly Hills to find clothing she liked. So she planned and plotted and created her very own boutique. The result? A dreamy, stylish walk-in closet. The kind girls fantasize about.
Pieces are one-of-a-kind. Elegant yet understated. Chic yet comfortable. Designers include Milly, Michael Stars, and TOMS and each item range from under $100 to over $300. I drool over a navy blue dress with side cut outs and a pleated skirt, which is priced at $308. A beautiful coral patterned dress goes for $355. But prices are worth it. Each piece my eyes flit over is unique and impeccably made.
And Elisa B. caters to all styles. Work dressy? She’s got suiting pants, structured dresses, and numerous blouses. Play dressy? There’s everything from a cream and navy stripped mini skirt to a long black skirt with black lace overlay. Even casual attire can be found here. Dozens of soft tee-shirts, tanks, and sweaters are stacked on ornate shelving, along with folded jeans.
What gets me is how effortlessly Elisa B.’s entire collection flows together. There’s such variety here; and yet, everything belongs together. Plus, while prices run high, there is no sense of pretentiousness here. Shoes sit on the floor with boxes behind them. Sale signs fill the store (Like DV silver cap-toed mint shoes: 40% off of $79). Quirky monogrammed jewels sit inside a rustic wooden counter.
Elisa B. is the perfect blend of trendy sophistication and casual chic, all at somewhat affordable (maybe not quite but definitely worth it) prices. The next alley I find, I’m taking it. Who knows where it’ll lead me? http://www.elisab.com/
