Set inside a beautiful brick building on Green Street is Founderly, a vintage clothing store. I’ve passed this shop dozens of times, admiring its always charming window display, until finally; I decided to dip in for a visit. The entrance alone is darling–you walk through an arched entryway with an open gate and instantly feel transported to a different era.
Once Inside, I decide something: I’ve stumbled into my grandmother’s walk-in closet. Snug and charming. Bedazzled and colorful. And smelling slightly of moth balls. The one-room store puts every corner, every wall, every bit of space to work — clothes hang neatly and closely together along the walls; shoes and jewelry sit in an antique-inspired cabinet; belts and brooches sparkle from a center-room display table; and at the front of the store sits a glass-top counter with a register on top. I am far from bored–there’s so much finery to take in.
Unsure at first of the quality of Founderly’s items, I finger pieces closest to me, looking for stains or holes. And find — nothing. Nothing but well maintained items that often times look brand new. What impresses me most, though, are the prices. A beautiful Nanette Lepore blazer, which could have come straight from Saks, is priced at $35. A pink and yellow tweed pencil skirt that appears never worn is as low as $15.
I continue along the walls, admiring breezy white tops, floral print skirts, and long patterned dresses and realize Founderly’s items radiate uniqueness. And accommodate a variety of shoppers’ needs. Looking for era-driven dresses, shoes, and hats? Done. Interested in mixing in subtle vintage items into your contemporary closet? Check. So, whether you wear head to toe vintage or seek to add a piece or two to your modern wardrobe, Founderly has something for everyone.
