Beautiful Liz Hollingsworth is not only a professional food caterer, but proud owner of the Ginger Corner Café in the Caltech neighborhood of Pasadena. Together with her mother Linda (it is evident where the looks come from) and brother Jeff Hollingsworth, they reopened the café in July last year. It was known until then as Eddie’s Market. The Hollingsworths renamed it Ginger Corner Café.
The charming little café, which is located on a quiet street right next to the Grant Park Children’s playground, has some wonderful things to offer, especially for those who get allergic reactions when they hear the words “fast food.”
“My idea was to offer a variety of homemade sandwiches to maintain the food tradition of the place,” explains Liz and points to a row of 50s style refrigerators and meat hooks hanging from the ceiling. Eddie’s Market used to be a butcher shop and popular among the nearby residents and Caltech employees for its delicious sandwiches. The refrigerators and hooks are a part of the building’s history.
A tempting variety of homemade bakery goods and a special mix of garden salads make this visit a unique experience. The front room displays a permanent exhibit of paintings from local artists and a niche with barstools and a sturdy wood bench. It’s a cozy area to withdraw for lunch or break time.
But this is not all, for the City of Pasadena requested that a small market be maintained to be concurrent with the zoning rules, so there is a small store in the back with basic groceries, handmade accessories and children’s toys.
Stop by and try one of the homemade goodies at the Ginger Corner Café and come to celebrate their first anniversary on July 6th.
