I’ve discovered Crossroads Trading Company, a gem at the edge of Old Town Pasadena. It’s a clothing and consignment store only hipsters seemed privy to. But fortunately, I can now include myself in that esoteric club. It took looking past the store’s nondescript exterior and focusing on their ogle-worthy window displays for me to finally set foot inside this large, open-aired store, where several long racks stand packed from end-to-end with dresses, pants, shorts, you name it. All in the latest styles, colors, and labels. And all on a budgeter’s dream.
Brands you can find at Crossroads? Endless. Here’s a peek at a pinky’s worth of their labels (and the kinds of bargains you can expect to find): Anthropologie (pants $16.50), Aldo (shoes $15), Chloe (pants $47.50), Gucci (bag $300), Oliver Peoples (glasses$42.50), Zara (dress $32.50), Diesel (men’s shirt $12.50). We’re talking steals. Chloe pants can retail for several hundred dollars. And a Gucci bag for $300? Beyond a deal–their bags can go for thousands.
The brilliance of Crossroads is the variety they offer–from commercial chains to designers, there’s something here everyone can afford. Or splurge on. Designers they feature include Marc Jacobs, LAMB, even Louis Vuitton.
But I did a little digging and discovered that Crossroads is more than just a stylish gem at Target prices. It’s also a consignment store. Meaning, they’ll pay you for your gently worn, on-trend items. Note, they are quite selective, taking only current styles and in-season colors and shapes. Luckily, Crossroads is majorly organized. They provide a guideline on what they’re looking for right at the registers, taking the mystery out of the buying process for first timers.
And for this first timer, the buying experience was easy. After signing in and showing my driver’s license (must be over 18 to sell), a sales assistant sorted through each of my pieces, priced them, and then–gave me an offer. Either store credit (50% of what they’d sell your items for) or cash (35%). I chose cash, and because of how painless the process was, I’ve returned twice more, earning over $100.
So, ladies–and gentlemen–get ready to buy, sell, and trade your shopping heart out when you visit Crossroads Trading Co. Your closet–and wallet–will thank you. Crossroads has 31 stores in the US with more to come. They have seven in the Los Angeles area.
